Description
This ceramic picture has the words ‘ God be lifting up my hands for in your embrace, each act of grace becomes yours’ – from poetry by Chris Goan.
Michaela has always loved drawing hands and extends this into the clay. She has memories of drawing hands for O level Art back in the day!
This is a sketch made by using her own outstretched hands as a model, drawn into the clay with the words added around them.
It’s a beautiful concept that we can pass on grace as we go through our day. We love to share these thoughts and expressions with you. The words in clay started as a way to see Chris’s poetry on a daily basis in the home, rather than in a book which is only sometimes taken from the shelf to be read. We hope you like the sentiments expressed too.
This spiritual artwork measures 18.5cm square, framed.
How we made this ceramic picture
Once the lettering and sketch were complete, the picture was put to dry and kept flat with plasterboard. When that and other artworks were dry enough, they were carefully placed in the kiln and fired to 1000 degrees. It takes a day for the kiln to cool. Then colour was added using underglaze to pick out the lines and lettering, and then to add colour to the hands and the background. The picture was then fired again to 1240 degrees, another two days – one for the firing, one for the cooling down.
Chris then framed the piece in simple plain light wood, with a hook for hanging on the back.
This would make a superb gift for someone in the religious community.
