Poetry jug (what is the point of magnolia?)
Large ceramic jug, with a line of original poetry.
On the outside, words are picked out in colourful underglazed and then the whole thing is coated with clear overglaze. Inside, the jug is glazed in a lovely mix of blues and greens.
This jug is a major statement piece and would look fantastic on its own, with flowers, or could be used practically to serve some the refreshment of your choice!
27.5 cm high
For those that may not know, the magnolia referred to here is a colour of paint very popular in offices and communal areas in the UK- a kind of not-quite-white cream colour.The poetry it taken from this poem, which has always made us laugh;
Life is too short for magnolia
Let’s splash the old walls with new paint
Mix me purples and blues
Like a two day-old bruise
And gold like the robe of a saint
Where does it come from, magnolia?
Not from the wild places I’ve been;
Brown eggs in a nest
Bright robin red-breast
And oceans of deepest sea-green
What is the point of magnolia
When rain is by rainbows replaced?
It’s the space left behind
When colours go blind
It’s life being leached from a face
