Description
These beautiful circles of stoneware clay are lovely to create and we think you’ll like to wear them too.
Each one is unique and special. Circles are cut from the slabs of soft stoneware clay. A word is then chosen from Chris’s poetry. Even our work with one word are still poetic in spirit.
The word will then inspire a teeny sketch by Michaela, who has always loved doodling. It may be the sea, or a seedling or a bord swooping in the sky..
The brooches are then dried between sheets of plasterboard, to keep them flat. Once dry, they are fired in batches in the electric kiln to 1000 degrees.
Once the kiln is cool, the brooches have colour added, using underglaze for the lettering and mines and marks, and a hint of glaze may be added to. This stage, adding colour and depth, brings the words to life. They brooches are then fired again, flat ion the kiln shelf, to 1240 degrees, which is a slow and thorough firing. It takes almost a day to reach top temperature and then another day to cool down before it can be opened. Much love and patience is added into each brooch, as you can see.
We love making them! We know they have been chosen for friends and loved ones or for a self-treat!
Each brooch comes packaged in a simple black jewellery gift box, which are carefully chosen as FSC certified.
They are 4cm diameter and look good on jumpers, coats and scarves.
