Description
A teeny glass corked jar containing approximately fifteen hand made ceramic hearts, glazed on one side in red.
A gorgeous little gift for someone who needs some love…
The jar is 4 cm high.
The hearts are made using our soft white stoneware clay. They take some dedication to make. It uses small pieces of clay left over from bigger projects, so there is less waste, but that’s not how they started – they started because Michaela loves making teeny weeny things! Hearts are such a symbolic shape that can express love, friendship, gratitude..
The hearts are cut out using a small heart cutter and once dried a little, the surfaces and edges are smoothed using damp fingers – they are too small to use a sponge on..
They are then dried on a piece of plasterboard and once dried are dropped (placed carefully..) into a cup or bowl that is also going in to the kiln. They are fired to 1000 degrees, the once the kiln is cooled, each one is glazed with a rich red glaze on one side. This is a detailed job that Michaela loves (Chris always finds another job on that day..). The edges are then wiped to give the glaze a clean, sharp line around the heart which helps to define the glaze.
The hearts are then placed on the kiln shelves, carefully spacing them between other work – they are a joy to see when we later open the kiln after its 1240 degree firing.
Fifteen hearts (or so) are then gathered into the wee bottles – we know they have been used for proposals, wedding favours, art projects, friendship gifts and valentines.. tell us your story!
