Description
These ‘biscuit plates’ were created and designed by us on realising that such a thing did not exist – a plate just the right size for a mid morning snack or to accompany a cuppa for a loved visitor.
Each one is adorned with a word or two from Chris’s poetry, highlighted by a sketch and some colour. This one has the words ‘this world we walk upon awhile is bursting full of wonder’ and is accompanied with a sketch of stars and shoreline flowers.
The plates are 10cm diameter.
How we make our biscuit plates
The clay is rolled out first and left to dry a little before being cut into circles. Each circle is then decorating by adding words, stamped in letter by letter, and a little sketch using a sharp stick. Michaela loves to doodle, and lets her imagination go with what the words have inspired, putting in the drawings and the the circle is placed on a wooden mould and shaped to make a small plate with a little edge.
Once dry and fired, more colour is added – underglaze is used to pick out the lettering and the lines, and then a dash of colour is added more underglazes, bringing the image to life. Each plate is then glazed with a clear glaze making it washable and food safe. Each one is unique and special – no two plates are the same.
The plaque is then fired again, so each one has gone through a long process of making. We inject everything we make with love!
These biscuit plates are always a source of good chat when we do fairs – how many biscuits if you build a tower, which is your favourite biscuit, why has no-one invented biscuit plates before… Add a bit of variety to your own house or gift-giving by choosing one of these delights!
