Description
This is a book of poetry written by Chris Goan, first published by Proost in 2018. It was printed in ‘pocket book’ format for poetry on the go!
All poetry scribed onto the pottery we make at Seatree is by Chris and this book contains many of the poems that have been used.
‘Where the Streams Come From’ was a collection of poetry put together to coincide with a Seatree solo exhibition of the same name at a wonderful gallery called Tighnabruaich Gallery on the Cowal peninsula, where we live. Poems are collected into chapters concerned with the way water brings life: river, irrigate, ocean, souls swimming and flow together.
It would make a beautiful gift for yourself or a friend who love the intriguing aspect of the water cycle and the cycle of creation by an artist or in the world. It can be signed by the author if you would like – simply drop us a note in the checkout.
Here is a wee sample for you;
Will the river run forever?
Will the river run forever?
Will it keep on tumbling down this cliff?
Will it keep on sparkling with the splash of light and life?
Will it dance to the scale of fin and fish,
Or will the music it makes
Fall silent?
Will the river run forever?
Will it carry the boat that carries me?
Will the flow go past these fields I know
And twist and turn to new places?
Or will it leave me just a fool, floundering
In a stagnant pool?
Will the river run forever?
Will it keep carving these old rocks?
Will it keep on carrying them as suspended sediment,
Spew them through the open-mouth of an estuary
Fan them across the ocean floor,
Or will it fail?
Will the river run forever?
Will it irrigate? Will it recreate the flow
Of life in me? Will it roll through this world like laughter?
Will it quench the thirst of a thousand tongues
Or will it dry, like the salt tears of a woman
Done with weeping?
