Description
These words were written by Chris and Michaela took the words and added an image of soft white narcissus blowing in the wind, which she saw in someone’s garden after helping them with a difficult situation. We both stopped and watched the beautiful flowers, just being, in the breeze.
The words are pressed into the clay with letter stamps and the image drawn in with a sharp tool. Once created, and the slab edges smoothed, the picture was carefully placed in the drying room, between plasterboards sheets for even drying. It can take a while to dry in our climate, but once enough work is dry, the kiln gets filled with the work and they get fired to 1000 degrees.
After a day has passed for the kiln to cool, then each piece is glazed. This daffodil piece had dark green underglaze added and wiped away enough to see the words and outlines. White and greens were then added to bring the flowers to life.
The picture was then fired again, this time to 1240 degrees. Patience is needed while we wait for the kiln to cool! After a couple of days, we empty the kiln and Chris makes a bespoke frame for each piece, including this encouraging poem on clay.
Framed, it measures 35 x 29cm, and the frame is 4cm deep.
