Description
A stunning mix-up of music, spoken word and art that grew from the book of the same name by local poet Chris Goan.
.
After the apocalypse dares to imagine the pandemic as a pivot point. A time when we stopped and looked again at the world we were creating and living within. On both a personal and a collective basis, many of us long for change. This work is above all about HOPE, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that we can be better, that justice for our broken people and broken planet is possible. If we can’t learn from a pandemic, then what?
.
Out of this came a collaboration first between Chris and Leeds based artist Si Smith – graphic novelist, illustrator and fine artist, which became the book ‘After the apocalypse’
.
Next came discussions about how we could make our hopes collective – how might we come together with friends to dream of better. After all, what is art for if not to be a harsh mirror, or a challenge, or a way of celebrating goodness? Out of this came the collaboration that we offer you here – the first of a number of similar events in different parts of the country, in which poetry, music, song and art are woven together in three parts – ‘before’, ‘during’ and ‘after’.
.
We hope that our art will provide an open space for your own hoping, and that in small safe ways we can share these with one another.

Bringing her incredible musical skills to this mix is Yvonne Lyon, a singer/songwriter of considerable renown and with her own wonderful back catalogue of recordings (including a collaboration with poet Stewart Henderson.) She will be coming fresh from two gigs as part of Celtic Connections. Yvonne will be joined by other musicians on the night as she makes her sound-magic.
